1. Malvasia cafe

Malvasia cafe

I consider this cafe one of the top things to do in the castle. It is located in a secluded spot and this is the guarantee that the visitors do not know about it, that is why you can calmly see the vast ocean. The straw chairs overlooking it, together with the olive tree, are one of the most photographed spots in Monemvasia. In addition you can enjoy coffee, homemade lemonade, sweets and snacks.

2. Central cobblestone - Kanoni square - Chrysafitissa square

Central cobblestone

If you are going to Monemvasia for the first time and you don't know what to do follow this route to see 100% of the secular life of the castle. In the central cobbled street the heart of the castle town beats with visitors coming and going and all the shops are gathered there, in the cannon square make a stop to see the view of the sea and if you reach the picturesque square of Chrysafitissa you will be able to approach the walls and see down to the sea.

3. Cocktails at Enetiko

Enetiko

A magical spot famous for the cocktails, on a terrace overlooking the sea. Relax to the soft sounds of music and its romantic atmosphere. I note that it is best to go after the dusk.

4. Portello

Portello

It is not a tourist spot but it is definitely worth seeing if you want to walk around Monemvasia. It is an old supply port that today has a ladder installed so that visitors can dive. An additional reason to visit is that it is one of the few places where you can get a sense of just how big the walls are.

5. Agia Sophia church

Agia Sophia

The restored Byzantine church Agia Sophia in the Upper Town is one of the castle's most important attractions both because it resembles Hagia Sophia in Constantinople but also because apart from an orthodox Christian church it was also a catholic church and a muslim mosque. Read more about the churches.

6. Wine tasting

Organized wine tasting tours are organized by the Tsibidi winery in Angelona Monemvasia. The tour includes a tour of the modern facilities of the production area, the aging area with the barrels and a tasting of the award-winning wines of the winery.

7. House of the poet Giannis Ritsos

Giannis Ritsos

Here the poet Giannis Ritsos lived his childhood years. It is worth visiting to see the house and his bust.
