By summer 100% of the local population will have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in these islands. If you have been vaccinated, get ready to get to know them as you will travel freely there!

Nisyros

1. Nisyros

Polyvotis was a Giant who fought against the Gods in the Battle of the Giants, Poseidon pursued him to Kos where he threw a part of the island to him and thus Nisyros was formed.

This is how the ancients explained the volcano of Nisyros which is the most active in Greece, more active than that of Santorini. You'll have the opportunity to visit the huge hydrothermal crater Stefanos and see from up close the fumes and the landscape around with the color of sulfur. Don't miss to visit the volcanic museum in Nikia.

Beyond the volcano, Nisyros is famous for its picturesque villages: Mandraki, Pali, Emporios and Nikia. In Mandraki, walk on the seaside promenade where the wave breaks on its wall, visit Ilikiomeni square, the archeological museum and the monastery of Panagia Spiliani. Nikia hangs from an altitude at the edge of the caldera, from there you'll admire the best view to the volcano. In the village square take wonderful photos as it's one of the most beautiful in the Aegean.

A must-see also is Pachia Ammos beach, regardless you swim or not, the best black beach in Greece.

At Apyria in Emporios you'll eat traditional delicacies while right next door, on the Balcony of Emporios, meat overlooking the caldera of the volcano. In Mandraki visit Gefsea for seafood while for local dishes at Apololi Kori, Veggos and Eirini at Ilikiomeni. You'll also find remarkable fish taverns at Pali, Captain's House and Astradeni.
