9 villages with beaches and good food near Nafplio
1. Tolo

Although Argolida is intertwined with some of the most well-known archaeological sites in Greece, a landscape is the exception to the rule and that is the golden sandy beach of Tolo. A wonderful place with a peculiarity: the expression “on the sea” has gone to another dimension as the buildings are built on the sand a few centimeters from the waves. Although it is not as good as it sounds it is still an amazing beach and it is a very good idea to visit it. It is located 15 minutes from Nafplio and 40 from the Epidaurus ancient theater.
Where to eat:
- Maria's on a wonderful balcony overlooking the sea and Koronisi islet that you can't get enough of. The flavours are of course not inferior to the view. Specialties are the shrimp spaghetti, chicken rigatoni and salad with grilled talagani
- Trypia Sayonara fish tavern on the sand a few centimeters from the waves in a very nice courtyard with mulberry trees. Enjoy Mrs. Virginia's homemade food so simple that you eat it and get full. It proposes a rich menu with very nice flavours, I can't say that I distinguish any dish because everything is delicious. The prices of seafood are also very good
- Limonia in an old stone building that used to be the Tolo primary school. With a garden in a very nice environment. Specialties include chicken rigatoni and Cleopatra salad, but all dishes are delicious. They also offer very nice pizzas
Below is a list of the hotels I recommend you to stay at:
- (€€) Flisvos Royal Hotel & Suites (⭐ 8.9) a renovated hotel near the beach. It offers spacious and comfortable rooms with nice colours. It also has a swimming pool
- (€€) Mari Hotel & Maisonettes (⭐ 9.4) on the sandy beach with its own sun loungers. Renovated and one of the best choices to stay in Tolo

2. Drepano

The beach in Drepano village is surrounded by hotels, campsites, caravan parks, cafes - bars and restaurants. A peaceful spot that is perfect for relaxing by the sea. I recommend being careful on the street as it narrows at the end and only fits one car while it is a two-way street, I always turn around.
Where to eat:
- Gefyraki fish tavern a family tavern near Drepano beach for fish in a peaceful location. It has easy parking and a playground
- Nakos in the village for good homemade food so delicious and special that you will remember it for a long time. Try chicken with noodles, lemonade steak, minced meat lasagna, pork a la crème, braised beef and pastitsio. The portions are hearty and affordable
- To Tzaki tou Magazia is not in a tourist spot so there is an important reason why I mention it. I have visited it twice and it is distinguished by the speed of service and the very nice food. Both times I got steaks which were juicy and tender and I really liked the salads and appetizers. It also has pizza
- Da Bosco italian restaurant authentic italian food by an italian. Well-known for its wood-fired pizza and the variety of italian cold cuts and cheeses
3. Asini

It is not a tourist village but it has points of interest worth mentioning. First of all it has a very nice beach which is one of my favourites. It has rocks inside that are difficult to pass, so it has a small pier so that people can cross them. Beyond the rocks, however, it is deserted, even if the beach is crowded, inside it is deserted like a deserted paradise. The setting reminds me of the 2003 film "Open Water" where two divers were forgotten by a boat far from the coast.
The Asini archaeological site is well-known as it is mentioned in the Iliad as "Asinin te" (and Asini) in the list of cities that contributed ships for the Trojan campaign. It is worth visiting the site as it is well-maintained with trails and signs that explain what you are seeing. Furthermore, it was used during the italian occupation as a bastion for the defense of the surrounding beaches and there are things to see from this period as well. I note that the archaeological site has a lot of hiking.
Where to eat:
- Asinin te in a very nice peaceful spot with a sea view. Specialties are shrimp spaghetti, calamari with garlic mayonnaise sauce, steamed mussels, talagani with fruit sauce and brisket with Jack Daniel's sauce. It also has sun loungers on the beach for coffee
- Arkoudas for quality and affordable food in the village of Asini in a place that is not touristy. A warm place that exudes tradition, quality and warmth with specialties: meatballs, fried zucchini, lamb chops and greek salad

4. Vivari

A small settlement with a few houses around a sandy beach about 20 minutes away from Nafplio. Rather popular for families because it is shallow and without waves, even if it is windy because it is located in a closed bay, with taverns lined up in a row. On the side there are narrow beaches with large trees that provide plenty of shade. Don't underestimate them because the waters there are very nice and the children can play happily in the shade.
Where to eat:
- O Nikos fish tavern high on a platform with a wonderful view of the bay. It offers meat and cooked dishes, handmade appetizers and salads. I tried shrimp saganaki, fried squid, green salad, grilled octopus, fried zucchini and grilled sardines. Everything was perfect!
- Una Fatsa Una Ratsa with a variety of fish and meat dishes as well as daily oily dishes
- To Limani fish tavern is actually next to a harbour where a boat comes and goes that transports things to the fish farms on the neighbouring islet. Specialty mussel saganaki with sauce, octopus with fava beans, shrimp spaghetti, shrimp saganaki and fried thrapsalo
5. Kandia

At a distance of 25 minutes from Nafplio, a pleasant sandy beach, large, calm, friendly for children, which is relatively remote and therefore not very crowded. An ideal spot for relaxation and contact with the sea. It has enough free space and each shop has its own sun loungers.
Where to eat:
- Tzavaras fish tavern a genuine fish tavern that could be the only reason to visit Kandia. Enjoy fresh fish in an environment where the seascape and the air whet your appetite. With a rich menu that includes several delicious dishes.

6. Iria

A peaceful village 35 minutes from Nafplio well-known for the artichokes. The beach is small and not worth much, however it is worth visiting Iria to eat.
Where to eat:
- To Limanaki in a magical spot in a traditional harbour with boats, a setting that takes you back to the 70s and 80s. The food is affordable but tasty without compromising on quality. The menu includes seafood and grilled meats that you can enjoy in the natural shade offered by the tamarisk trees. Bring mosquito repellent because if there is apnea, there are quite a few mosquitoes
- Nontas in the village square for seasonal and cooked dishes, all delicious, mom-style and in large portions. Specialty stuffed burger, fried zucchini and artichoke pastries
- Kapou Allou with a large mulberry tree that covers the yard. Simple food, quality, homemade and at reasonable prices. Specialty ribs, pies, soutzoukia, fried zucchini and zucchini meatballs

7. Nea Kios

Although it doesn't have a nice beach I'm including it on the list. The sand on the beach is said to be suitable for treating rheumatism, which is why some people cover themselves with sand from head to toe. I don't know if it's true but a local told me that the germans during the occupation had also adopted it. Kios has a reputation as a source of fish because of the boats that sell their catch at stalls, the locals even say "to Kios for a fish".
Where to eat:
- Tsakiris fish tavern a tavern known in the area for its flavours and quality, in front of the sea of Nea Kios in a secluded spot. Specialities: grouper with olive oil and lemon, zucchini keftedes, shrimp pasta, fish soup and fried atherina
- Psaropoula tou Valsami on the pedestrian street, I have eaten there several times and I have the best impressions for the nice atmosphere, the large portions, the fast service and the good prices. My favourite dishes are the fried calamari and the grilled sardine

8. Myloi

Myloi is a small seaside village but with a rich history. This is where the labor of Hercules took place with the battle he fought with his half-brother Iolaus to kill the monster Lernaean Hydra in the swamp of the Pontinos river. The swamp still exists today but unfortunately there is no monument to the event only some graffiti at the pumping station. It is also worth going to the mouth of the river to see the military installations of the conquerors from the period of occupation.
The Battle of Myloi also took place here in 1825 when Makrygiannis repelled Ibrahim's egyptians. At least for this fact there is a bust of Makrygiannis at the site where the battle took place.
Myloi was a souvlaki stop during the time of the old Corinth - Tripoli highway before 1992. The tradition is preserved to this day with souvlaki shops and grills in the center of the village.
Where to eat:
- O Lykos fish tavern on the beach, with tables under plane trees, for fried squid, grilled shrimp and delicious sea bream
- O Faros fish tavern next to the harbour, for seafood barley soup, grilled sardines, fried anchovies and beetroot salad

9. Kiveri

My place of origin and the most beautiful village of the Argolic gulf, not because it is my village but objectively speaking. With two beaches, the large one ideal for children and the other at the fish tavern Kanaris deeper. Sunbeds are free by ordering from the cafes.
Where to eat:
- Pournari is by far the best tavern in the village. A traditional place in an old white stone house with a huge holly tree in the yard. Visit it for delicious traditional flavours and grilled meats. It is also open in winter
- Katsiris in a nice courtyard by the sea, for flavours such as mussel pilaf, cuttlefish, zucchini fritters, octopus in wine with fava beans, oven-baked lamb and shrimp barley. The greek TV hostess Vefa Alexiadou has shared with the owner her secrets for an even more delicious food.
- Isalos fish tavern some of the dishes I have tried are seafood pasta, grilled sardines, fried thrapsalo, fried shrimp and they left me with the best impressions
