1. Tolo

Tolo

Although Argolida is intertwined with some of the most well-known archaeological sites in Greece, a landscape is the exception to the rule and that is the golden sandy beach of Tolo. A wonderful place with a peculiarity: the expression “on the sea” has gone to another dimension as the buildings are built on the sand a few centimeters from the waves. Although it is not as good as it sounds it is still an amazing beach and it is a very good idea to visit it. It is located 15 minutes from Nafplio and 40 from the Epidaurus ancient theater.

Below is a list of the hotels I recommend you to stay at:

  • (€€) Flisvos Royal Hotel & Suites (⭐ 8.9) a renovated hotel near the beach. It offers spacious and comfortable rooms with nice colours. It also has a swimming pool
  • (€€) Mari Hotel & Maisonettes (⭐ 9.4) on the sandy beach with its own sun loungers. Renovated and one of the best choices to stay in Tolo

2. Drepano

Drepano

The beach in Drepano village is surrounded by hotels, campsites, caravan parks, cafes - bars and restaurants. A peaceful spot that is perfect for relaxing by the sea. I recommend being careful on the street as it narrows at the end and only fits one car while it is a two-way street, I always turn around.

3. Asini

Asini

It is not a tourist village but it has points of interest worth mentioning. First of all it has a very nice beach which is one of my favourites. It has rocks inside that are difficult to pass, so it has a small pier so that people can cross them. Beyond the rocks, however, it is deserted, even if the beach is crowded, inside it is deserted like a deserted paradise. The setting reminds me of the 2003 film "Open Water" where two divers were forgotten by a boat far from the coast.

The Asini archaeological site is well-known as it is mentioned in the Iliad as "Asinin te" (and Asini) in the list of cities that contributed ships for the Trojan campaign. It is worth visiting the site as it is well-maintained with trails and signs that explain what you are seeing. Furthermore, it was used during the italian occupation as a bastion for the defense of the surrounding beaches and there are things to see from this period as well. I note that the archaeological site has a lot of hiking.

4. Vivari

Vivari

A small settlement with a few houses around a sandy beach about 20 minutes away from Nafplio. Rather popular for families because it is shallow and without waves, even if it is windy because it is located in a closed bay, with taverns lined up in a row. On the side there are narrow beaches with large trees that provide plenty of shade. Don't underestimate them because the waters there are very nice and the children can play happily in the shade.

5. Kandia

Kandia

At a distance of 25 minutes from Nafplio, a pleasant sandy beach, large, calm, friendly for children, which is relatively remote and therefore not very crowded. An ideal spot for relaxation and contact with the sea. It has enough free space and each shop has its own sun loungers.

6. Iria

Iria

A peaceful village 35 minutes from Nafplio well-known for the artichokes. The beach is small and not worth much, however it is worth visiting Iria to eat.

7. Nea Kios

Nea Kios

Although it doesn't have a nice beach I'm including it on the list. The sand on the beach is said to be suitable for treating rheumatism, which is why some people cover themselves with sand from head to toe. I don't know if it's true but a local told me that the germans during the occupation had also adopted it. Kios has a reputation as a source of fish because of the boats that sell their catch at stalls, the locals even say "to Kios for a fish".

8. Myloi

Myloi

Myloi is a small seaside village but with a rich history. This is where the labor of Hercules took place with the battle he fought with his half-brother Iolaus to kill the monster Lernaean Hydra in the swamp of the Pontinos river. The swamp still exists today but unfortunately there is no monument to the event only some graffiti at the pumping station. It is also worth going to the mouth of the river to see the military installations of the conquerors from the period of occupation.

The Battle of Myloi also took place here in 1825 when Makrygiannis repelled Ibrahim's egyptians. At least for this fact there is a bust of Makrygiannis at the site where the battle took place.

Myloi was a souvlaki stop during the time of the old Corinth - Tripoli highway before 1992. The tradition is preserved to this day with souvlaki shops and grills in the center of the village.

9. Kiveri

Kiveri

My place of origin and the most beautiful village of the Argolic gulf, not because it is my village but objectively speaking. With two beaches, the large one ideal for children and the other at the fish tavern Kanaris deeper. Sunbeds are free by ordering from the cafes.

Where to eat:

The hotels I recommend in Kiveri are:

  • (€€) Meli Apartments & Villas (⭐ 9.2) an apartment complex just outside Kiveri, in a secluded location with unobstructed views of the Argolic gulf
  • (€) Vrachos Κanari (⭐ 9.6) apartments next to Kanaris fish tavern and near the beach
  • (€) Kiveri Luxurious Seaside Apartment (⭐ 9.8) an airbnb in a peaceful spot with a very nice view of the sea suitable for 4 - 5 people
