Marathounta beach in Symi island
This is a beach with coarse pebbles and crystal clear waters, but there is also a surprise: a small herd of goats that wander among the people in search of food.
The beach is very nice with umbrellas provided by the shops but the pebbles may be difficult for some, it would be a good idea to have beach shoes with you.
The goats are seemingly friendly but as they search for food they can become annoying as if they see anything edible they rush to devour it.
Below is a list of stay options I recommend to you stay at:
- (€) Maravelia's Rooms (⭐ 8.4) in a very good location within the village of Symi. It offers comfortable rooms and a roof garden with a view
- (€) The Old Symi (⭐ 8.9) cozy rooms with traditional touches and most with private balconies guaranteeing a comfortable stay. Located just a short distance from Gialos
- (€€) Pedi Beach Hotel (⭐ 9.3) in Pedi a beach hotel in a modern building for those seeking rest and tranquility
If you are in Rhodes I recommend the full-day boat trip to Symi and Panormitis.
If you are in Symi then I recommend the bus trip to Panormitis Monastery.
If you go by boat you will be there for quite some time. It is also advisable to go there after your visit to the Panormitis monastery, for a swim and a meal as it is only 10 minutes away by sea taxi.
There are two places to eat:
- Kafe to Kyma coffee, delicious snacks, salads and free umbrellas with the order
- Marathounta Tavern homemade food with a specialty in seafood
