As soon as I faced this golden sandy beach I felt two things: initially I was left speechless and once I saw it better I wondered how it was possible for such a beach to exist in Greece.

Kato Samiko

Because besides being heavenly it is also isolated and offers authentic images that speak for themselves.

Below is a list of the hotels I recommend you to stay at:

  • (€€) Hotel Europa Olympia (⭐ 9.4) in close proximity to the Olympia archaeological site one of the top stay options. With spacious rooms, a swimming pool and a rooftop restaurant it will make your stay there unforgettable
  • (€) Chrisas hause (⭐ 8.9) a wonderful house in a peaceful location in Kato Samiko very close to the beach

It has two beach bars which I didn't bother with but they seemed good quality. I sat in a garden with grass and trees for shade which was convenient for me because I have small children. It has parking and showers.

ACTIVITIES

The best activity is a visit to the archaeological site of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

The best idea is to visit the site with a private guide so as to understand with every detail what every monument is. If you don't need a private guide then book your ticket to avoid the queue.

If you are in Athens then you can visit the site on a full-day excursion.

The beach is crystal clear, shallow, suitable for children and like all beaches in the Ionian sea, it has strong waves.

You can find food Kato Samiko village but since I was going to Ancient Olympia after swimming I preferred to eat my lunch at Krestena in the central square which turned out to be an excellent idea.
