Kakovatos beach in Zacharo, Ilia prefecture [VIDEO]
A truly immense sandy beach in Zacharo, Ilia prefecture, a destination in itself that I certainly can't add much to beyond the photos you see.
It is organized with a beach bar with sunbeds at no extra charge beyond the order.
It has several eateries and is rather popular for eating by the sea. When I went there it was literally crowded and parking was difficult. Where I saw people waiting in a queue was at the tavern "Kati Psenetai" so I guess it is the most sought after.

The best activity is a visit to the archaeological site of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
The best idea is to visit the site with a private guide so as to understand with every detail what every monument is. If you don't need a private guide then book your ticket to avoid the queue.
If you are in Athens then you can visit the site on a full-day excursion.
It is shallow, suitable for children, but when the wind picks up it raises a lot of waves. Furthermore it has no natural shade at all.
